How to deal with the slow curing of RTV silicone rubber in winter
Dec 13,2022 Hanast
When winter comes, the temperature drops. Many of our customers say that the curing time of silicone sealant at room temperature is too slow, affecting the output and so on! I believe that many consumers have encountered such a situation. What is the reason why the silicone sealant cured at room temperature has not been cured?HANAST will teach you a little skill on how to make silicone sealant cure quickly. First, we need to determine whether the silicone we use is two-component silicone or single component silicone. After that, we can match the corresponding solution.
The curing process of silica gel requires chemical reaction of water molecules in the air. It is relatively dry in winter, with low humidity, low moisture content in the air, and low temperature, which together cause the silica gel to dry slowly.
Some customers may suspect that the quality of silicone sealant is a problem. In fact, silicone sealant has certain requirements for weather and temperature, and the temperature difference will lead to unstable curing time of the sealant! This kind of situation is normal and has nothing to do with silica gel quality!
The following methods can provide reference
1. Increase the humidity in the air.
2. Increase the temperature of curing environment. Steps 1 and 2 should be satisfied at the same time to ensure the use effect
3. After the product is used, the rubber tube should be tightly covered, and it can be stored for reuse.
4. When it is used for potting, the one-time accumulation thickness should not be too large. If it is ≥ 3mm, the method of layered pouring and gradual curing can be used. The greater the accumulation thickness of glue, the longer the complete curing time.
5. If it is a two-component silica gel, you can consider increasing the amount of component B (curing agent), but you'd better consult the relevant technicians for the specific extent.
